Welcome To More Than A Parent!

Welcome To More Than A Parent!

Peace and Greetings Parents! My name is Kiyoko, and I am the founder of More Than A Parent.

A little about me… I am a high school teacher and a mom of two beautiful humans. My son is an inquisitive but comical teenager, who can be cracking jokes one minute, then trying to analyze people and the world the next. While my daughter, who is just as comical, is a creative being who likes to paint, make her own beauty products, and is on her own journey to discovering Self. They both keep me on my toes, and both my loves.

While parenting can be rewarding and fun, I can honestly admit that I’m no stranger to its challenges; and that’s what led me to creating this blog space. There’s an age old adage that says, It takes a village to raise a child.” Well, let me tell you, if I didn’t have certain people in my corner as part of my “village” which was simply my support system, I don’t know how I would have made it, and even today, “the village” is still needed.

I recognize that there are many moms and dads with various needs of support in parenting, from someone to listen to and encourage them, to tips and ideas in recreation, school, disciplining, stress, communication, and so much more. So I decided to establish a space for that. As I share my experiences, tips, and information, I hope you will journey along and share some of yours.

All things done in Love.

March is Cerebral Palsy Celebration Month

Meet my baby sis, Brandi. I know she looks like she’s 15, (she hates it when I say that), but she is actually 24. Brandi has Cerebral Palsy. If you’ve never heard of CP before, or have heard of it but don’t know what it is, it’s a condition that occurs when there has been […]

A Child’s Voice

Who remembers what it was like staying at their grandparents or other family members’ houses for the weekend or during the week when their parents were at work? Some of you probably hold very dear memories of them, where there’s lots of laughter, good food, a house full of cousins running in and out of […]

Every Parent Needs A Village

Parenting is like a marriage, once it starts, you’re in it for better or for worse. It’s not like packaging; you can’t just stamp a “return to sender” label on your children and send them back where they came from, (at least we hope not). Rather, it’s a commitment, one that some see all the […]
